The 'Iao Valley is a beautiful and lush jungle just west of Wailuku Town. The trees reach 50 ft. and up, for the sky. Each tree tries as hard as the one next to it, to claim what little space there is, to get their share of the sunlight.
The unrelenting force of the ocean slowly takes away the sand. Unable to withstand the erosive power of this never ending force, the tree has succumbed and fallen over. This night, it stands firm and proud, not knowing what will happen in a few days.
This lone rock, with it's low profile, provided the subtle perfection to anchor this scene. The Vog from the Big Island of Hawaii's active volcano made it's way to Maui, providing a soft and expansive filter for the sun's setting colors.
